Last year, during the week of May 2, 2010, Our Community Salutes of Pittsburgh honored those high school graduates (public and private schools) and ROTC cadets who had chosen a path of service to our Nation. The week kicked off with participation in the Pittsburgh Marathon on May 2nd followed by an On-Field Swearing-in Ceremony at PNC Park on May 4th during the nationally televised Pittsburgh Pirates/Chicago Cubs baseball game. On Thursday, May 6, 2010 a formal banquet was held at Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hall. The banquet was underwritten by Range Resources. Donations from the community, including private citizens, community-based non-profit organizations, veterans groups, local businesses, education, and other groups supported the week of activities. During the program, high school guidance counselors were recognized with the presentation of the “General Colin Powell Leadership Award,” commending their commitment to mentoring and supporting young adults desiring to serve our nation. THIS YEAR for 2011, please consider helping with a donation to the 2nd Annual Our Community Salutes of Pittsburgh Military Enlistee Celebration scheduled for April 27, 2011 —no matter what the amount. Help us provide the first-class recognition these brave, outstanding young men and women deserve! Terrie
