Pittsburgh, PA – Pittsburgh Social Venture Partners (PSVP) has chosen their next grant recipient (or “Investee”) as Phase 4 Learning Center, Inc. Phase 4 will receive $15,000 in financial support as well as significant contributions of time from many of our partners. Phase 4 Learning Center provides alternative education to high school aged youth who are unable to learn in a traditional school system. The school has an amazing 100% senior class graduation rate and 60% of their students go on to post-secondary education. PSVP’s unique model of grantmaking allows their donors (Partners) to become engaged by volunteering their time in capacity building projects with grant recipients. Partners are also in control of the grantmaking process, and play an integral role in how the Investees are chosen. A team of 12 partners served on the grant review committee during the process, which included elevator pitch training and site visits with grant finalists. “It is amazing how the organization comes to life when you visit their center, see the children they serve and get a true picture of how they are accomplishing their mission,” says Bethany Davidson, a partner and coordinator of the Site Visit phase of the process. Two partners will team up to work with Phase 4 on developing a plan for how to manage their rapidly expanding and highly successful program. “We are so grateful and humble to be chosen this year from a pool of so many worthy nonprofit organizations. Our whole team is very excited about working together to enable Phase 4 to reach more students”, says Phase 4’s Executive Director, Terrie Suica-Reed. With PSVP’s support, the partners hope to bring Phase 4’s model of alternative education to a wider audience and work toward PSVP’s mission to prevent child abuse and neglect. PSVP is a partnership of philanthropic-minded individuals who invest their time, expertise and capital in innovative nonprofits serving at-risk youth.
