PHASE 4 Harrisburg Takes Its Annual Field Trip to Elizabethtown College

The staff and students of PHASE 4 Learning Center in the Harrisburg Mall recently took their annual field trip to visit Elizabethtown College in Elizabethtown, PA, where they toured the campus, visited classrooms, the library, and dorms, and ate in the cafe.

Julian Dorsey, Site Director of PHASE 4 Harrisburg reports that the purpose of this trip – as well as an earlier trip to Messiah College and HACC, Central Pennsylvania’s Community College – is to encourage the students to consider the opportunities available to them and to spur the students to achieve more academically.

“Many of the students talk about going to college but most of them have never set foot on a college campus. We like to involve our students in ‘experiential learning’ activities to hopefully give them something tangible to work towards. Without this opportunity most of them wouldn’t have the resources to visit even the local colleges.”

Because the Elizabethtown College campus is about 20 miles southeast of Harrisburg, the field trip also gave the students the chance to ride the Amtrak train for the first time, providing an additional experiential learning opportunity.
